QI-107 was flown by a wingman of carrier IJN Soryu during early September 1940.
In 15 September 1940, all air units on the Soryu were temporarily transferred on board the carrier Hiryu.
From 17 September through the early part of October, the unit was active off Hainan Island.

On 15 November 1940 IJN Ryujo returned to active duty after a long time of repairs.
Constituting the 3rd Carrier Division, together with the IJN Hosho, she was posted to the 1st Fleet.
IJN Ryujo carried sixteen A5M4 fighters and eighteen B5N1 carrier attack planes .
